Audience Research Question 19.

The Audience research has given us a result which clearly shows people watching a horror film prefer or expect the victim to be the female character. This is because usually a horror film has the male being the villain. Horror films contain the male being the dominant character because it gives a sense of pressure to the person watching the film as they would expect the female to defeat the male character. The research shows 78% of the audiences want the female to be the victim and the remaining 22% want the male to be the victim.

The 22% that want a male to be a victim is due to the fact they want to see something different compared to the usual conventions of horror films. The male being the victim will of course give the viewer a pleasure to watch as the female will do anything and will pursue beyond a womanly character. The characteristics will be more of a violent approach towards the male, and this will give the viewer a pleasure to watch. Another reason is due to people not wanting to see women as the victims always and it may upset there feelings because they do not want to see the female as the weak character. This challenges the convention of all typical horror films.
